Today our school had this assembly on "cyberbullying." This short fat guy came in, pulled us out of our second and third period classes, and we got to sit in the gym for an hour and a half listening to him narrate his PowerPoint presentation. I've got to say, it was one of the worst assemblies I've ever had to attend. Then again, it did provide some conversation fodder for the rest of the day.
The PowerPoint was especially terrible because most of it was misspelled and weirdly worded. If you're trying to be serious, having the word "HATRID" emblazoned across the top of your PowerPoint slide doesn't really help. Also, a lot of his "can't"s and "don't"s were missing apostrophes. It was just a train wreck. But the actual content of the presentation was pretty stupid, too. It completely missed the mark.
Besides failing to connect with teenagers who actually use technology (using such phrases as "phone text messages"- as if there's any other kind!) a lot of what the guy was trying to say just didn't make any sense. There are people these days who want to distinguish between face-to-face bullying and "cyberbullying" (that's a great buzzword because, OMG, kids these days are so high-tech! and tuned in to the VIRTUAL WORLD!) but the fact is, it doesn't matter whether you're saying something to someone's face or using technology to do it. It's the same thing.
I went shopping with my mom today. We were supposed to get a dress for me to wear to the football dinner next week, but I really didn't want to. I mean, I like buying clothes, but not with my parents. Besides, I have enough dresses; my mom seems to think that none of mine are "nice" enough. Anyway, she was also trying to find an outfit for herself to wear to this important dinner on Friday. I've got to say, my mom's bad taste in clothing combined with the terrible selection in the Macy's plus-size department made for a catastrophe of a shopping trip.
It really isn't fair that all the clothes there look matronly and terrible. It's like they're telling my mom that it's okay to wear silk leisure jackets with sheer sleeves. Don't plus-size women deserve non-awful clothing, too?
